The dried leaves of the plant are either made into a paste and chewed or smoked to induce a hallucinogenic effects known as a trip. There are many different varieties of salvia divinorum with different potencies; there are also dried leaves that have been infused with the extracted chemical Salvinorin A which is the psychoactive existent in the leaf.  After ingesting the chemical Salvinorin A through either chewing or smoking the dried leaves or extract you will begin to feel the effects of salvia in a few seconds. Most Common Type Used?

The most common type of salvia used are the extracts.  Extracts are a more potent form of the dried leaves, thus it takes less matter burned to acheive a greater affect.  The most common potencies used are 10x to start and working your way up gradually to the 30x and 40x.  Very experienced users commonly try the high potencies out there like the 75x and 80x.  These are only reccommended if you have plenty of prior use with salvia and are not good for first time experiences as they may scare you away from the product.
